CP Holiday Train

Don’t miss Grammy award winning singer Sarah McLachlan performing at the annual CP Holiday Train at Anderson Station on Saturday December 7, 2013. This free concert will also feature The Tenors and Matt Dusk.

In support of the Calgary Food Bank and hosted by Peter Mansbridge, the event begins with the opening of the North Pole Station at 4:00 p.m. followed by the concert, which begins at 5:00 p.m.

Explore the North Pole Station and its family-oriented activities including Santa, ice carving and hot chocolate before the show begins.

Attendees are encouraged to take Calgary Transit to this event as parking is limited. The event is free, however attendees are asked to make a donation or bring non-perishable food items for the Calgary Food Bank.

We are excited to welcome the University of Calgary Solar Car Team to Vista Heights on tomorrow November 28! This interactive presentation will promote sustainable energy practices and give all classes an opportunity to view the Schulich Axiom solar car.

University of Calgary Solar Car Team 

Please view yesterdays blog regarding the solar car team presentation on Thursday. Thank you to those parents who have returned the Media Release and Consent Agreement forms. 

Home Reading Books: 

We have been practicing our reading in small group instructions.  These guided reading lessons include the teaching of reading strategies, comprehension skills and word attack skills.  Books for guided reading lessons are carefully chosen to teach the skills your child is ready to learn. 

Books will be sent home (in a zip lock bag) daily for you to practice with your child.  This will ensure that your child will approach his/her Home Reading with some confidence, and that the Home Reading experience will be a pleasant one for you both.  These books are selected from an assigned reading level that your child is practicing independently during quiet reading time.  Please make sure that these books are returned to school everyday.

University of Calgary Solar Car Team Visit

We are excited to welcome the University of Calgary Solar Car Team to Vista Heights on Thursday November 28! This interactive presentation will promote sustainable energy practices and give all classes an opportunity to view the Schulich Axiom solar car. 

A Media Release and Consent Agreement is being sent home. By signing these forms, parents are giving permission for their child to have their picture taken during this presentation. Pictures would only be used by the University of Calgary Solar Car Team for their website or future presentations. All students will participate in the learning opportunity; the consent for photos is optional.

Officer Dan from S4 - Start Smart Stay Safe was at Vista Heights for the Lockdown practice. We also had an opportunity to practice dribbling the ball and practice some ball skill with officer Dan and officer Dalton.

Soon we will also be inviting officer Dan to do a few lesson with us.
